The Boeing Corporation was founded in 1916 by William E. Boeing located in Seattle, Washington. Boeing started manufacturing small seaplanes known as the B&W Seaplane Model 1. The Model 1 helped pave the way for Boeing to enter the aviation market. Over the years Boeing would also start to expand its aviation arms into the military industry, civilian jetliners, and space vehicles. The expiation into these other markets helped make Boeing an industry leader.
Durning the 1920s and 1930s, Boeings name and reputation became known for manufacturing high quality, reliable aircraft. The Boeing 40 mail plane helped transport mail throughout the continental United States and the Boeing Model 247 was the first all metal airplane which helped passengers reach destination with comfort and speed.
World War II thrust manufacturing industries into war supporting industries. The demand for military aircraft increased every day and as expected, Boeing started supporting by producing military bombers. The two main planes that Boeing produced during this time were the B-17 Flying Fortress and the B-29 Superfortress.
