A needs assessment article that I was able to read is "Identifying 2SLGBTQ+ individuals experiencing homelessness using Point-in-Time counts: Evidence from the 2021 Toronto Street Needs Assessment survey" by Abramovich et al. (2024), which investigates and explores the prevalence and distinct experiences of 2SLGBTQ+ individuals experiencing homelessness in the city of Toronto, Canada. This article highlights the distinctive challenges and vulnerable instances that this community has within the homeless population. This article puts a main emphasis on the targeted interventions and policies to address the specific needs of 2SLGBTQ+ individuals in the community to help improve their housing security and their overall success.

The study provides data from the 2021 Toronto Street Needs Assessment survey with results on homeless individuals in Toronto with results of two hundred and eighty-eight 2SLGBTQ+ individuals completion of survey (Abramovich et al., 2024). With this study they were able to find the root cause for most of the individuals leading to homelessness. Most participants demonstrated being in foster care, conflicts within family or guardian, or some were likely to experience chronic homelessness. This study utilized a cross-sectional design using Point-in-time to gather data on the homeless population at a given time for clear and concise results.

The strengths of this article include having a targeted focus on 2SLGBTQ+ community by addressing the experiences that these individuals face within the homeless population and providing valuable insights into a marginalized group that is often overlooked amongst our community. Another strength includes the inclusion of the 2021 Toronto Street Needs Assessment Survey as it provides a clear insight of individuals facing homelessness in the community.

A limitation in this article includes just having a cross-sectional design that limits its ability to track long-term changes over time. Another limitation can be potential underreporting of 2SLGBTQ+ individuals due to fear of discrimination or hesitation to disclose their sexual orientation.

An ethical concern that arises from this article would be informed consent with all participants ensuring that each individual is fully aware of what the purpose of the study is, the role that they partake in the study, and any potential risks they must be aware of.
