I need help to answer my classmate discussion board question
As I am a US citizen my knowledge regarding the laws related to bribery in Europe is limited. Bribery is relatively accepted in the country but I don't have information about the limits for accepting bribery. As the government had recently launched an initiative to reduce corruption, I need to know the details regarding the controls put forward by the government and how far those controls are effective. I need to analyze my organizations policy on bribery before taking the decision as the decision may affect my job. If I take decision to pay the tip against my organization's policy, I may lose my job. My shipment is of around $150,000 value, but the tip demanded by the customs agent is not clear. If the tip is a small amount that comes within the legal limits of the country's law and my company is not against paying small tip for accepting the highly valued goods, I need to consider paying tip but still government's efforts in reducing corruption would be an obstacle in taking proper decision. Later, I would proceed by enquiring the customs agent about the percentage of tip. Next, I would contact my seniors to understand our company policy on paying tip and then enquire about the country's laws regarding bribery in the form of tip and its conditions including any new laws against the same. If all the conditions favor paying tip, I would pay the same as the goods are very important for me as well as my company.
