I need help to do a small abstract based on the information in the picture about like a paragraph.
Method Participants Our study involved 79 participants (average age: 26.42, standard deviation: 13.13). We recruited participants through social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook, as well as at East Los Angeles College. We used purposive, convenience, and snowball sampling methods to gather our sample. Out of the participants, 55.7% were female, and 44.3% were male. Most participants (94.9%) identified as Hispanic, while the remaining 5.1% included Asian, Black, and White individuals. All the target images in our study featured Hispanic males. Design We used a mixed model factorial design with a 2x2 structure: Participant Gender (Male, Female) x Target Smile (Smile, Plain Expression). The Target Smile condition was a repeated measure. The main dependent variable was the perceived level of threat. Materials Shortened Version of Title To study the effect of the Target Smile variable, we used images of individuals and created short scenarios for participants to evaluate. Responses were recorded using a Likert scale to measure perceived threat. Stimuli The images used for the manipulation showed a Hispanic male wearing a white t-shirt, displayed from the shoulders up. Each image was 6 x 4 inches, with a plain white background. The only variation between images was whether the individual had a smile (see Figure 1) or a neutral expression (see Figure 2). We used eight different Hispanic males to create intal of 16 images. For the scenarios, we designed short descriptions set in various environments (e.g., workplace, restaurant, classroom) and included details like time of day. These scenarios were initially brainstormed by us to reflect situations where a sense of threat might arise. We used ChatGPT to generate over 40 potential scenarios and then filtered out those that were less relevant to our research
