The quality of a company's product is vital to its success and reputation in the community and within the marketplace. In a perfect world, there would be no defects or malfunctions in any product a company manufactures, and every employee is mindful of the waste they are producing and the cost of poor-quality control.

Fractional horsepower electric motors are suffering from the costs of wasted materials and poor-quality control if the problem is not addressed, the cost of these issues will be passed on to consumers. To reduce the cost of production, Operation Quality was introduced. While this brought awareness to the lack of product quality and decreased the number of materials wasted, it was at the expense of employee satisfaction. Employees became angry and afraid. They were no longer meeting their quotas for their year-end bonuses and the trust they once had in management was broken.
