Assignment: What is an Effective Learning Environment?

This module's Learning Resources have provided you with an overview of research and examples of effective learning environments, across both traditional and non-traditional settings. In this assignment, you will consider how your definition of an effective learning environment has been refined or changed as a result of your learning throughout this module. You will then develop a list of criteria that you think effective learning environments for school-age children and adolescents should fulfill.

In a 2- to 3-page paper, respond to the following:

• In this module's opening Discussion, you described your preconceived notions about what constitutes an effective learning environment for school-age children and adolescents, based on your past experiences. After reviewing this module's Learning Resources, how has your definition of an effective learning environment changed or been refined? Explain.
• What criteria do you think a learning environment must fulfill in order to be effective? Develop a list of 36 criteria that you think effective learning environments for school-age children and adolescents should fulfill, including a brief rationale for each item. In your rationales, be sure to explain how the criteria might apply to both traditional (e.g. K12 classroom) and non-traditional (e.g. virtual, real-world, informal, etc.) settings, using specific examples to illustrate your points.
