To: From: Roberta Everson, Manager Student Name, Human Resources October 22, 2018 Personal View on Internet Policy Date: Re: After thoroughly reviewing the Internet Policy, it sounds like a great idea and has my personal support. Personal usage of the internet has always been a distraction, which is why this policy should be enforced company wide. Every employee will not agree with this decision, but these supporting arguments might change their minds: Increased Company Productivity. The company would be much more productive and generate more income as a result . This will boost employee morale knowing that our company is profitable and working hard. Without a policy in place, employees could abuse their internet powers by checking social media or online shopping while they should be doing work. A consulting firm, Challenger, Grey & Christmas, Inc., estimated that the NCAA's 2006 college basketball tournament alone cost employers $3.8 billion in lost productivity as a result of employees viewing games online" (Eckel, 2006). Improved Internet Speeds - Using the internet for streaming services such as Netflix and Spotify can seriously decrease internet speeds, which can make it difficult for employees trying to use the internet for work related reasons. One employee on a big streaming site such as Netflix or Hulu can seriously impact our business's operation With an internet policy in place, this will allow the internet to be used for work only, allocating more bandwidth for everyone for faster speeds (Carabelli, n.d.). Reduced Legal Liability - If employees use the internet to search inappropriate sites (pornography), it could open our company up to many lawsuits. If an employee witnesses another employee doing this and finds it offensive, it could be grounds for a harassment lawsuit. An internet policy would help prevent this from happening since it will ban personal use of the internet on the company's Wi-Fi (Eckel, 2006). This Internet Policy would benefit the company by increasing productivity, maintaining fast Internet speeds, and preventing lawsuits. Thank you for allowing me to provide input. I hope you take these arguments into account and vote for the policy at the next board meeting. References
