You are part of a well-staffed human resources team and participate regularly in the joint health and safety committee alongside employees, union health and safety representatives, frontline supervisors, and senior management. Your workplace takes safety seriously and invests heavily in OHS practices and equipment, designed to keep people safe. However, over the past 2 years there has been an increasing number of accidents and near misses, with some resulting in serious injuries and death. After reviewing the investigation reports for recent incidents, your committee learns that a majority of incidents involve younger and temporary male workers who do not consistently demonstrate positive safety behaviours, including the proper handling of machinery, managing hazardous chemicals, and using personal protective equipment.
