I found a case for copyright infringement between Google and Oracle docket number 18-956. Back in 2016, Oracle sued Google for copyright infringement for using it's Java program for Andriod OS but a San Francisco jury found that Google didn't (Liptak, 2020). The case was appealed by Oracle and went to the Court of Appeals but the decision was reversed. Google appealed to the Supreme Court but the Court remanded the case to the Federal District Court. The Federal District Court agreed with Google that it had not infringed on Oracle's copyright. Oracle then again appealed to the Court of Appeals which was again reversed in Oracle's favor. This time the Supreme Court decided to hear the case on Oct 7, 2020 and will have a decision by the middle of next year (Liptak, 2020; Oyez).

Copyright is protected under the Constitution under Article 1, Section 8, Clause 8(The Constitution of the United States: A Transcription, n.d.). The issue at hand is whether or not Java's Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) are covered under the copyright clause. This could have an impact on the tech industry which often borrows technology from each other for newer and better products (Oyez).
