'i'6-- Pickles are processed by soaking them in a chemical solution for a period of time. A company has used a standard chemical solution, label it 31; however, the solution is not biodegradable and its disposal is expensive. The company wished to nd an alternative solution that could be used to process the pickles which is biodegradable. Three biodegradable solutions, label them 32, 33 and S4, were selected. A total of forty different processing units of the same size 1were available for the study. Each of the four chemical solutions were assigned randomly to ten processing units. The forty units were all used at the same time. During the soaking; process some pickles tend to bloat and must be discarded. One goal of the experiment was to compare the average number of bloater pickles obtained with the four solutions. The data listed in the table consists of the number of bloater pickles in each processing unit.
