ICA SPECIFICATION Task 1 This Task is worth 70% and, based on the scenario provided below, will assess:
  • Your network implementation
  • Provision of accurate and appropriate technical requirements
  • Provision of an appropriate test plan solution
Scenario: A campus network comprises of 1400 network devices. The network has recently expanded and as a result, need to move into a new building. The building has been identified but has no network. New network infrastructure needs to be implemented in the new building. The organisation has the following requirements for its new network: -
  • That the service be available between the hours 8 am and 5 pm
  • That the service provides 99.99% availability during these times
  • That the network must be secure and connected to the internet.
  • That the network provides a reliable service
  • The network should provide high performance for the end-users
  • The new network should have sufficient capacity to support the business for five years.
In task 1, you will implement the network and produce a supporting technical report (approx. 1500 2500words). The network must be tested for correct operation. The network documentation must include the test results in the form of screenshots, router configuration files or other proof of operation. Products:
  1. A diagram of the logical design created with a professional tool, like Visio.
  2. A small-scale operational network in Packet Tracer, with documented screen captures of connectivity.
  3. Design and implementation of a campus wireless network that supports the main network.
  4. Discussion of the design, hardware, topologies, software, servers, and TCP/IP protocol used.
  5. Screen captures of configuration files and test results, including ping and traceroute.
  6. A valid subnet for the proposed solution, using class-based and variable subnet marks. Include calculations.
  7. A section on security for the proposed solution.
Task 2: Two (An individual reflective report) weighted at 30%. Each student will write a short 1000-1200 word individual reflective report that describes their contribution to the group, evaluation of selected tools, Security Audit of the proposed network solution, personal skills, and related career aspirations. This part of the assessment will assess learning outcomes 6, 10 and 11. This task will assess the following:
  • Reflection on the project process, own strengths and weaknesses
  • Review implementation configuration (Opnet or Packet Tracer), verification and security for the proposed solution.
  • Network Audit, future-proofing the network and identification of security enhancements based on academic literature.
Appendix Learning Outcomes Module Learning Outcomes Personal and Transferable Skills 1. Reflect on individual performance during the module and identify skills development for future employment. 2. Communicate technical concepts effectively and professionally. 4. Demonstrate router CLI configuration and Addressing and implement router IOS versions and configuration file backup. 5. Produce an appropriate employability artefact. Research, Knowledge and Cognitive Skills 6. Demonstrate knowledge of computer hardware and software, electrical signals, networking terminology and protocols. 7. Demonstrate understanding computer network development principles such as of TCP/IP Protocol Suite and IP addressing and sub-netting. Including VLSM, CIDR and Route Summarisation. 8. Demonstrate knowledge of routing metrics and interior routing protocols. 9. Compare and contrast the appropriateness of static or dynamic routing protocols to meet the business needs of a networked system. 10. Discuss switch configuration, verification and security choices for given wired and wireless scenarios. 11. Comparing, contrasting and configure appropriate routing protocols to meet business requirements. Professional Skills 12. Demonstrate Router CLI configuration and Addressing and implement router IOS versions and configuration file backup to meet specified design requirements. 13. Demonstrate recognition of ethical and legal issues associated with networked systems.
Marking Criteria Task 1 (70%)
Part 1- Design & Implementation Marks
Implementation and Design To obtain maximum marks you need to :-
  • Produce a detailed, network implementation & design in response to the information provided in the ITT. Your solution should consist of diagrams and test results screen shots for the campus network
  • Your design should clearly show the measures you have included that address the business and technical requirements. The document should be professionally presented using a tool such as Visio and Packet Tracer.
.
20%
Addressing scheme To obtain maximum marks you need to :-
  • The design should include a valid subnet solution along with explanation. The subnet must map to the design diagram and business requirements.
