Identify a form 1040 (preferably 2021) available either online, or in your text. In addition, locate available schedules that attach to 1040 (Schedule C and E for example). The IRS website offers many of these.

Using these resources, identify and label the major sections of the 1040 in a written format (you dont need to do this on the formrather do it as you would when taking notes). For example, filing status would be an important section, as would any significant subtotal such as taxable income. Available schedules are also important. Be sure to work at least through Schedule E.

If in doubt, be more rather than less thorough. At the end, you should have an outline that identifies and describes the function of the major sections of form 1040.
