Online students definitively seek instructor feedback in a manner that is supportive and geared towards improving their performance. To meet this need, instructors have to find a way to provide the feedback that provides enough details to assist the learner to improve their skills. It also means that the educator is tasked to provide that information in a manner that is seen as constructive, helpful, well intended with no negativity, providing examples of what is suggested. What is not fully able to be controlled is the tone that will be perceived by the student. Despite careful creation of feedback, the learner may still take offense. This is a challenge that is forever present in an online format. Instructor's providing feedback to online students needs to meet the objective of a change in student performance.
