In order to motivate the employees, their unmet needs should be fulfilled. When their needs are fulfilled, they continue to be motivated as they gradually move up from lower- order needs to higher-order needs. Safety is provided by giving employees personal health facilities (gyms, pools), child care services, doctor's office services and many more. Google also takes care of the social needs of its employees by providing a range of diverse environments in which staff can relax and interact with each other. They are allowed to work in small teams. An employee can change his team as and when he requires. This allows the employees to feel a sense of belonging to the organisation. Google pays the annual education costs of up to $6000 for its employees who want to pursue higher education. It also allows its employees to work independently so that they get a sense of responsibility which increases their self-esteem. Google also allows employees to spend up to 20% of their working hours on developing their own innovative ideas. Many of the Google products that are integrated into our daily lives are the result of this 20% time. What is critical is that employees are not required to spend 20% of their time on their own projects, but if they choose to, it is encouraged. This concept inspires employees as it allows them to concentrate on things they love or are passionate about. It can prevent burnout, decrease employee turnover, increase their engagement in work.
