The second part is not so cut and dry and requires you to REFLECT on your own past and present to recognize if you have ever engaged in this behavior. My thought is yes, that everyone of us at some point has engaged in ageism. Whether you have knowingly did it, or by accident because of something you thought about, or maybe even how it influenced your behavior. This assignment is worth a total of 10 points. (1 pt) - . 3. In what ways does elderspeak reduce communication? Explain. (1 pt) Part 2 - REFLECT on your own experiences: Reflect on your own interactions with people in late adulthood. It can be with people that you know or people that you do not know and were complete strangers. Think about things you have done that could constitute as ageism based on your behavior andfor thoughts you had at that time. MNow, in a s'hol}, 3 paragraph essay (one paragraph for each example), describe AT LEAST THREE specific experiences and behaviors you have engaged in that would be considered ageism. (2pts each example; 6pts) For example, these are some instances where people do engage in ageism. (I am not going to go into detail, that is for you to do) You can describe situations and scenarios where you participated in behavior similar to these, but try to come up with your own. Maybe you sighed loudly, made a comment to someane you were with, or had a not-so-nice thought when you were behind an elderly person in line at the grocery store. Maybe you purposely moved to a different line (or did not enter that line at all) at the store so that you are not behind the elderly person thinking they will be slower. Thinking in your head, told a friend, or made fun of an elderly person for writing a check at the store. Or even cursed or complained in your your car when you were driving behind an elderly person. There are MULTIPLE EXAMPLES that are going through my head right now, but I do not want to take all of them as most of them are fairly common. I have heard them from previous students in INET sections, from my classroom activities, and from me, myself. We all have done it at some point in our lives
