1. Inflammation

• Describe a specific example of inflammation that you have observed in a patient, friend, family

member, or yourself.

• Identify factors that caused the inflammation to occur.
• Describe all the clinical manifestations you observed.
• Choose two of the clinical manifestations you described and explain in detail the mechanisms that caused them. Be sure to maintain confidentiality.

2. Hypersensitivity reaction

• Describe an allergic reaction (type I hypersensitivity) that you or someone you know has experienced.
• Was it a skin (rash, hives), respiratory (rhinitis, asthma), or systemic anaphylaxis response?
• What allergen (if known) triggered it?
• Describe the signs and symptoms, the mechanisms that caused them, and how long they lasted.

Be sure to maintain confidentiality.

• Note:Be sure you describe a type I hypersensitivity reaction. People who say they are "allergic" to something that causes vomiting are not using the term in its technical meaning. Explain the process of sensitization that must occur before it is possible to have a type I hypersensitivity reaction.
