Assignment Objective: The purpose of this assignment is to demonstrate the course learnings, by creating a virtual store through the use of Shopify, an ecommerce website, this project includes elements such as; store design, merchandising, pricing, inventory management and promotion. The students will gain an appreciation for the various factors required to successfully develop a product line for their website, select colour and/or style variations, evaluate pricing strategies and maintain sufficient inventory levels to ensure customer satisfaction. Step by Step Assignment Instructions: 1. First, start by forming your team and finalizing the following logistics: You may select your own teams. Just remember effective teams recognize the importance of bringing together a diversity of skill sets necessary for a projects success. Teams will be made up of a group of 4 students (depending on class size). This is a group project, not an individual one so you may not work alone. Confirm your team members names with your Professor by Week 10 of the course Ensure that you have secured the necessary contact information required to maximize your teams communications i.e. email address and/or cell phones of each team member. You should also establish a regular weekly team meeting date/time that works for everyones schedule; collaborating regularly will also drive success.

2. Review Assignment Outline and Deliverables:

1. Prior to setting up your store, you must clearly define who your target customer is in order to tailor your assortment and price points to them accordingly. As a team and, as part of your final presentation, clearly identify who they are. You can use the PRIZM Marketers Guide to assist you in this. (Module 4 > Theory > Scroll down to PRIZM). Descriptive information to include is: age, income, lifestyle and other demographics we identified through Environics. 2. Teams will select a category of merchandise to be offered on their Shopify website. 3. Each member of the team is responsible for setting up four (4) items on the groups website. 4. Each product must have a minimum of 3 variants (size, colour, etc.), a full description and SKU number coinciding with the overall category. (Your Professor will assist with this in class.)

5. Once your team has added all of the products its important to give your website other elements to create an interesting and interactive site. Assign one of these 4 pages to each team member.

Use Canvas editing features to add your store name, adjust the colours and swap icons if youd like. Download your logo, then upload it to your online store.

A lifestyle image demonstrates your customer using a product that is similar to yours, or living in a context where your product might be used.

Example: if you sell exercise wear, a lifestyle image could be a person running or practicing yoga.

6. In Week 12 we will be doing an in-class survey of your peers to determine what they would likely purchase from your store. Once this has been completed, each member will need to add their Opening Inventory count for their items/size/colour. Your classmates are your customers, you want to sell out your product as much as possible. Be mindful when adding the quantities, you do not want to over or under inventory. 7. Next add all of your product information on Part 1 of the form below. (Beginning of the Month BOM is your Opening Inventory level, the Wholesale Price is your Retail Price divided by 2 at 100% markup): Inventory Evaluation Form 8. Week 13 is Shopping Week; your professor will provide you with a maximum spending allowance. You may only purchase one item from your own website, however you may purchase multiple items from other websites. No dumping to clear your budget, your purchases must be thoughtful. At the end of Shopping Week, calculate your total spend, add this total, along with proof of purchase (emailed orders) to your Groups dropbox. 9. After Shopping Week, revisit the Inventory Evaluation Form and complete Part 2. As a group, discuss your profit and loss. What surprised you, what disappointed you. This discussion will be part of your Shopify website presentation. 10. At the discretion of your professor, a presentation format will be determined for Week 14.
