In a footnote, Josh tells us that "teens spent more than $141 BILLION last year on stuff" (71). Tashjian originally published this book in 2001, so we can probably assume recent statistics show an even higher dollar amount. What do you think the author is trying to tell us, the readers, by including this statistic in her novel? (3 sentences at least please)
