week 1 aspirations

My early college courses and my high school assignments have greatly influenced my prior writing experiences. I participated in a variety of writing assignments in high school, from creative writing projects to analytical essays. These encounters gave me a strong foundation for organizing arguments and expressing myself concisely. I am aware of my shortcomings, though, especially when it comes to gathering information and skillfully incorporating sources into my work. I was exposed to more sophisticated academic writing in my past college classes, yet I occasionally find it difficult to follow tight formatting requirements and keep a formal tone. These experiences will assist and test me in WRTG 112, where my goal is to improve my abilities and strengthen my areas of weakness.

My goals include going into criminal justice, where having excellent writing abilities is crucial for communicating ideas clearly and concisely. Taking Academic Writing II (WRTG 112) will help me accomplish my goals because it will give me the skills I need to write well in both academic and professional settings. My ability to think critically and analyze information will improve with this course, which will be useful in the criminal justice profession while creating strong arguments. In addition, I agree with Michelle Singletary's justifications for enrolling in college, which include enhancing critical thinking abilities and getting ready for the workforce. WRTG 112 will improve my writing skills, which will help me progress academically overall and get ready for the demanding expectations of my future career. One area of grammar where I believe I can improve is the proper usage of colons. While I understand that colons are frequently utilized to begin lists, quotes, explanations, or elaborations, I sometimes need help knowingwhen to use a colon instead of other punctuation symbols like commas or semicolons. This hesitancy can lead to confusing phrase patterns and a lack of clarity in my work. To focus on improving in this area, I'll begin by extensively examining grammar rules and instances that demonstrate good colon usage. I intend to practice composing sentences and paragraphs that appropriately use colons, utilizing exercises from grammar workbooks and internet resources. In addition, I plan to study more professional and academic writing, focusing on how authors utilize colons efficiently. Seeking input from professors, classmates, or writing tutors will also help you discover and address chronic issues. By actively practicing and getting criticism, I hope to gain confidence and proficiency in utilizing colons to improve the clarity and flow of my writing.
