In my current role I have been exposed to multiple business process improvement projects over the last 5 years. Reflecting on the challenges I encountered the most, change management roadblocks were the most difficult to navigate. On the other hand, what made me more successful was to have a clear process improvement methodology in place. In my organisation, change happens frequently and because of that I assumed that most employees are used and comfortable with change. In one particular business process improvement project that I was leading, I took my time to define a vision of the future and answer the employees questions around "What are we doing and why?"; however, I mistakenly thought that would be enough to get the team's buy in. Couple of weeks later, I realised that I didn't have the team's buy-in; furthermore, they were quite resistant to the change I was proposing. I had to slow down the execution of the project and spend more time conducting change readiness assessments and change leadership workshops to ensure the successful implementation of the project.
