The study The Incorporation of a Chelating Agent into a Flame-Retardant Flannelette and in the the Evaluation of Selected Fabric Properties conducted at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University was to evalue the use of a chelating agent as part of the flame-retardant finish of cotton flannelette by determining its effects upon flammability after the fabric is laundered under specific conditions. Two baths were prepared, one with carboxymethyl cellulose and one without. Twelve pieces of fabric were laundered 5 times in bath I, and 12 others pieces were laundered 10 times in bath I.
