Hi class,
My name is Brittany and I am taking this class from upstate NY. I am working on my Business Administration degree. My current job is accounting focused in a non profit, I do enjoy it but would eventually like to have a job where I can have both desk work and field work. I was a stay at home mom for longer than I have been in my career, I'm still at the beginning and enjoying the journey; wherever that should lead me.
In the planning phase in POLC, a company sets an objective, writing out what it is they want to achieve and what they can do to achieve it. An example they mentioned in the text is when the Roman Empire planned their aqueducts. They didn't just start building it, they had to have a plan. In the organization phase, management further dives into the plan. Making sure tasks are to be completed by the appropriate groups. Next is the leading phase, when inspiration and action is taking place. Last, is the controlling phase, this is where management keeps tabs on the process and makes sure that the tasks are being completed and the being done in a timely manner.
I think the most important part in POLC is the organizing piece. You can plan all you want and lead or control all you want but if your plan is not in order than it could be discouraging for employees if work needed to be redone. For example, if you're building a house and the drywall went up before the electricity was run and they had to remove some drywall and drill unnecessary holes in the wall, that is an unorganized plan and a waste of time and money.
