Question:
In Sri Lanka, from January 2020 to June 2021, there have been 233,064 COVID-19 patients with 2,368 deaths. The Sri Lankan Government planned on increasing the number of PCR tests conducted daily due to increased death rate in the country recently. In particular, tests were previously conducted only through government authorities and now they are planning on collaborating with private sector to enhance both quality and quantity of the PCR tests.
According to the plan, individuals whom are subjected to home quarantine are requested to undergo the test in a private hospital at their own cost. A minister from the opposition argued that there are many low income families in Sri Lanka; therefore, there is very less probability to succeed in this plan. The Department of Census and Statistics reported that an average low income percentage is 20% in the country according to the previous research. A research must be conducted to test the opposition ministers’ claim.
