In the assignment, I will assume the new Training and Development Director role of the ABC Corporation. In this assignment, I will evaluate my training staff.
Trainer one was seconds late for the meeting and wasnt engaging with his audience. He stated that managers manage people, projects, etc., attend conferences, and already know these things. When Gloria asked about the information in the manual, the four primary functions of planning, resources, leading, controlling, or coordinating, the trainer told her that is what the book is for. He didnt need to elaborate on this question since it is in the manual. He needed to move forward to get through all of the stuff, and he knows some managers do review the book, but its not essential. Then, the trainer took a coffee break within one minute of the presentation.
After reviewing this interview, this trainer thought this session was optional and that he was going through the motions. His hostile behavior made three employees in the session combative and not engaged in his learning session. It was a gripe session about the trainer and his lack of engagement with the team and the material in the handbook.
Trainer two was more engaged with the team because of her presentation skills, and everyone was smiling; she started the session on time with a greeting, asked them if they had time to review the manual, referenced the last session, reviewed characteristics of an effective manager, and announced that they were going to review the four primary functions of a manager. Then, she asked her audience if someone could name one of the management functions. One of the managers stated that it depended on the manager's level because managers are responsible for their team goals and various functions in their area. Then, she assured the managers that they would review the four functions, planning organizing resources, leading, controlling or coordinating. In the session, she asked, Who can tell me what the planning role entails The answer given to her was put in the question, Is that where the manager decides what the team will achieve over time? The trainer responded, Yes but thats only part of it She then instructed them to open their manual to page so they could review it She also stated that the planning function includes identifying objectives, resources, and completion dates. She then stopped to see if anyone had questions before attending the following function of organizing resources.
When Randy told her he was looking forward to this session, another teammate stated that the book's material was exciting and that she needed to review it further. Teammates were engaged to learn in this session and with the trainer. Before the session began, they stated they wanted more from trainer number one.
Trainer number three, Bob, whom the managers greeted in the session, was not enthusiastic and stated, Hey Then, he went right into the training session about the four management functions: planning organization, resources, planning, and controlling. Planning includes identifying goals, objectives, methods, and resources needed to carry out procedures, responsibilities, and dates required to complete tasks. Examples of planning are strategic planning, business planning, project planning, staff planning., advertising, and promotional planning. Managers also organize resources to achieve goals in an optimum fashion. Examples are organizing new departments and human resources Eve raised her hand to ask a question. The response she received was, Yeah Whats your question?Bob can we go back for a minute before we go onOkay what is itI just wanted to know which one of the planning processes you consider the most important? Bob responded, Well umm, we are getting ready to take a break now. Can you remind me later, and I will answer your question then. Eve responded, Sure
