In the following image, a connection between two systems has been redirected by an attacker. The attacker has spoofed ARP packets to make it so that responses to the legitimate server are instead sent to a system that the attacker controls. When traffic is sent to that system, the attacker reads and potentially modifies the traffic before passing it along to the server, then sends back responses from the server after reviewing or modifying them as well.
