In the video Patrick Lencioni spoke upon "The Five Dysfunctions of a Team", the first one being lack of trust, fear of conflict, lack of commitment, avoidance of accountability, and the inattention to results. These are five common issues that can hinder a teams performance and effectiveness. One of the first experiences that comes to mind is when the restaurant I used to be employed to was under management of a manager that did not trust their employees and therefor taking out on us and creating a fear of upper management and more unnecessary conflict. This manager delegated us through our tasks and spoke to me and my other coworkers in a demeaning and unprofessional matter. Thankfully that manager was shortly layed off. Although this example was between a leader and how they were causing dysfunction to the team, it causes the same problems if it were happening between peers. Building trust is essential and when your foundation lacks trust it can only go downhill from there. Without trust between a team and a leader, open and honest communication becomes difficult.
