In this assignment you will configure a basic service you are already familiar with. We will build on this basis throughout the rest of the course. The purpose of this is to refresh your memory on common configuration tasks, as well as to establish a base$-$line that we will compare against when configuring services with more advanced tools.

Note that this is a solo assignment.

Network Structure

You may choose the hostnames and addresses of your individual machines, provided they fit within the domain name and network structure provided on blackboard.

The Service

You have been tasked with managing the named DNS infrastructure for your network. You will need one master server that is authoritative for your zone, one caching forwarder that handles outgoing queries, and two slave servers that client machines in your network will use when querying DNS $($the slave servers will then relay queries for anything outside your organization to the caching forwarder$).$ Note that a proper installation would include security features like TSIG keys and DNSSec, however we will not be configuring those.

Note that most of the details of configuring this service are being left up to you. The expectation is that you, as a capable administrator, will make sensible decisions with regards to how you configure this service. Be prepared to explain why you chose to use the configuration options you did $($as the senior administrator may have questions about your configuration$).$

Submission

Upload all configuration files used by your service $($e$.$g$.$ named$$s named.conf, your zone files$).$ For each machine, you will also need to submit hostname and network configuration as well as firewall information.
