In this chapter, four techniques for establishing the optimal flow of materials in a Manufacturing Facility were studied: the action relationship diagram, the worksheet, the additional block diagram, and the flow analysis. This segment of the "Project in Practice" employs all four techniques to determine the most efficient distribution possible for the Shade Tree Grills manufacturing company. The activity relationship diagram and graph summary show the relationships between the various activities and operations carried out at the facility. From this information, a dimensionless block diagram is created to show the proposed distribution. Flow analysis studies are conducted to better understand design limitations by identifying congested and bottleneck areas.
