In this individual assignment, you will conduct a comparative case analysis of two business organizations. The catch is that you need to choose one organization that is known to be a success story (such as Apple, Google, Microsoft, Walmart, BMW, IKEA, etc.), and the other organization that is an example of organizational / project failure (such as Blackberry, Nokia, Yahoo, Kodak, Toys R Us, Blockbuster, etc.) You are expected to read extensively about your chosen two organizations in a variety of sources (previous case studies, news stories, newspaper or magazine articles by management experts, industry reports, etc.) by closely examining the details about their organizational structure, culture, mode of communication, leadership styles, and HR-related strategies such as recruitment, selection, performance appraisal, and talent management. This is going to be a very clear and concise analysis, so you are not expected to summarize your readings. The best way to present your findings is by displaying them in tables and bullet points. For example, you may choose to focus on similarities of the two companies in your first table, and then summarize the differences between them in the second one. You will finish your analysis with a list of conclusions as regards what you think were the most important factors conducive to the success and failure of your chosen organizations, and recommendations for the future based on the OBHR concepts learned in this course. Your report should not exceed 2000 words in total (including your introduction, the comparison tables, the explanatory bullets, and your conclusions everything put together). Submission deadline is the end of Week 6, which is February 19. Because it is a long weekend, you may take the additional one day on Monday, so you have until February 20.
