Remember, most of the lab problems are mostly solved within the lab. So, if you can utilize your lab time, you can solve completely or most of the problem within the lab time 

 

This problem will be discussed in the lab and most of the parts will be solved within the lab. So, attend the lab or watch the lab recording for solving this problem.

 

In this problem, we will write some utility functions that can be used to process strings. There are some built-in library functions available in string.h. However, we would like to write our own methods so that we can understanding string processing clearly.

 

List of functions (note that you are not allowed to use string.h library):

 

int getLength(char s[]): this function takes a string and returns the length of the string

 

int is_equal(char s1[], char s2[]): this function takes two strings and return 1 if both string contains exact same characters. Otherwise, it returns 0

void str_copy(char dest[], char source[]): This function takes two strings as parameter and copy the source string to the destination string. Very often the students forget to assign '0' to the end of the dest string. So, make sure you do not forget to do that.

 

void swap(char *a, char *b): This function takes the references of two characters and swaps them

void str_reverse(char s[]): This function takes a string in the parameter and reverses the string. Note that you are not allowed to use a helper array in this function. Also, you must have to utilize the swap function.

int is_palindrome(char s[]): A string is known as palindrome if the reverse of the string is the same as the original string. You must have to utilize str_copy, str_reverse, and is_equal function to make your decision in this function. But you should not print anything here. If you utilize the functions, it will be a maximum of around only 6-7 lines of code.

void capitalize_word(char *str): This function takes a string and updates the first character of each word to upper case and the remaining characters to lower case. Tips: in a loop read character by character of your string and whenever you find a space, advance i by i++ and check the ith character is lower and then convert that to upper. Otherwise, convert all the other characters to lower if they are upper. Just write a special case for the first character of the string as there is not space before the first character of the string.

 

The main function and the function prototypes are provided below. Please observe the main function and make sure you understand how the different functions are being called and how we are utilizing the functions. You are not allowed to modify the main function:
