(a) (b) Briefly discuss any two (2) material pre-treatment steps that may be taken prior to leaching? Justify why such steps should be taken. (8 marks) In a laboratory leaching experiment, 400 grams of a nickel ore with 1.68% Ni is leached to yield 1200 cm of pregnant leach solution (PLS). The concentration of this solution is too high to be measured directly by atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS). Therefore, 1 ml of the pregnant solution is pipetted and made up to 250 cm of a solution "X" using distilled water. Twenty millilitres of "X" is pipetted and made up to 100 cm with distilled water to obtain solution "Z". If "Z" is found by AAS to analyse 2.5 ppm Ni, What percentage of nickel in the ore is leached in the experiment? What is the concentration of nickel (in g/l) in the pregnant solution obtained after the leaching experiment? (12 marks) (1) (ii)
Step by Step Solution
There are 3 Steps involved in it
1 a Material pretreatment steps are often necessary before leaching in order to maximize the efficiency of the leaching process and to ensure a high yield of the desired metal or mineral Two common ma... View full answer
