In this project, you will do a research paper on a segment of healthcare. Examples of a large generic segment are Inpatient Units or Operating Rooms. You can also pick a medical specialty for your research paper, such as behavioral health, cardiology, oncology, dentistry, etc.

This is the required outline.

1. Introduction to the healthcare segment you did your research on.
2. Issues faced by this healthcare segment. What are the specific problems this healthcare segment faces? Around four papers should be reviewed to support your conclusions.
3. Strategies to improve the market segment. At least 3 case studies where the segment successfully improved its performance. I am looking for articles that report system-wide implementations. Summarize all the strategies and tactics that they followed to improve performance. One example of a tactic from an article I found stated that. "Every fifth week, the process improvement team, often represented by the process leader, met with the management group to report on progress (or lack thereof). Barriers to improvement were identified, as well as how and by whom these should be addressed. Managers decided which countermeasures to implement and follow up on and in this way participated in the improvement efforts."
4. How does this connect with the course? Provide a connection of the improvement strategies and tactics of the case study with the topics covered in the course whenever possible. These include the Five Focusing Steps, Drum-Buffer-Rope, or Buffer Management. Notice that the case studies most likely will not mention these logistics tools. You just need to establish the connection. For instance, the above example is connected with Buffer Management.
