In this scenario, you have been hired as a statistics expert by a nonprofit organization devoted to driving safety. The organization wants to determine if viewing a documentary that they created on the dangers of using a cell phone while driving would reduce the frequency of cell-phone use while driving. You need to analyze the data they collected and construct a well-supported conclusion. In their study, prior to watching the video 15 teenage drivers answered several questions measuring the degree of their agreement with statements like "I am likely to use my cell phone while driving," using a Likert response scale where 1 = strongly disagree and 7 = strongly agree. Each participant's responses were averaged to create an overall score of likely cell-phone use while driving. Next, the 15 teenage drivers watched the documentary film on the dangers of driving while using a cell phone. After viewing the film, the teenage drivers answered the same questions again to determine if their attitudes had been changed. In this research situation, the sole purpose of the research is to determine if the documentary film is effective at reducing the frequency of cell-phone use while driving. If the results suggested that the film had no effect on participants' driving attitudes or if, for some inexplicable reason, it made them more likely to use their cell phone while driving, the film would NOT be used.
