In this second assignment, you will write a synthesis, a summary of two articles that also tells the relationship between them. The rest of the essay should respond to both articles and explain why you agree with one more than the other, with both, or with neither. Make sure that your synthesis articulates the primary, overall arguments being made by both authors. Your essay should have a clearly identifiable thesis statement that includes a rationale, an overall reason for why youve taken this position.

Your essay should contain the following:

1. A synthesis that sums up and tells the relationship between the ideas in two articles. The synthesis should be approximately 1/2 to 1 page in length. The synthesis should constantly refer to the authors to make it clear which ideas belong to which writers. It is better to compare and contrast the positions of the writers throughout your synthesis rather than describe each article separately. For example, you might say Sklar and Krugman agree that or Unlike Sklar, Krugman contends that

2. A thesis in which you use templates from They Say/I Say to effectively articulate why you agree with one more than the other, with both authors, or with neither.

3. A response that explains and gives examples in support of your thesis. This portion of the essay may use quotations and examples from any of our readings to support your ideas.
