In this writing exercise, you will think about a narrative essay that you would like to write and outline the main character involved (someone other than yourself). You will then write a scene with all the relevant information about that person that pertains to the essay. The purpose of this exercise is to find out what you know, as well as discern what information is needed and what else you need to know in order to offer a fair portrayal of your subject. Your information should be tailored to the needs of the hypothetical essay, but may include the following: What is this person's background? What region is he or she from? Socioeconomic status? Education? Political or religious beliefs? How does this person's background inform the way he or she acts, speaks, and dresses?
