You work as a management intern at a large clothing retailer. You have been trying to convince your boss about the value of understanding organizational behaviour for the firms performance. Your boss disagrees with you. She is convinced that employees do not need to be happy to work harder, and that the only thing that helps employees work harder is paying them more money or firing disciplining them if they do not meet expectations. She tells you that she feels this way because that is what she has always known and that it is obvious.
