Objectives

After completing this assignment, you will have demonstrated that you:

Apply the theory of organizational behaviour from the individual, organizational and managerial perspectives.

Recognize and analyze the different challenges caused by individuals, groups and structures found within the workplace.

Identify and analyze organizational concepts and issues the student encounters in the workplace given varying business situations and understand how to successfully apply these concepts.

Synthesize selected knowledge learned to create workable conclusions and recommendations.

Topics

You will need to apply any topic from chapters 1-7 in the textbook to either an organization that you are familiar with or your own workplace as a case study to solve an OB based problem that the organization is facing due to the Covid pandemic. Do not try to analyze organizations such as professional sports teams, Amazon, Google or Apple unless you have worked there--your paper will not be specific enough. Be sure to apply OB research and OB theory, for example: Maslow, Components of an Attitude, Emotions and Moods; Employee responses to job dissatisfaction, etc.

Topics and papers associated with the HR course (ORGS-1137) are not allowed.

Questions to be answered by the paper

Please use headings and answer each of the 4 questions in order:

Introduction: Choose, name and describe an organization that you will be analyzing based on the topic chosen. Briefly provide some context for the chosen topic and how it applies to the organization. Define and describe an organizational problem that relates to Covid and the organization chosen. This topic will be analyzed, so provide some background to answer why the selected problem is relevant and important, and identify at least three OB related problem symptoms (what you see, hear, impacts on the workplace, etc.) that indicate or support that the OB problem chosen exists.

Analysis: Analyze the organizational problem in light of the topic chosen. You should compare and contrast at least three applicable OB theories or whole frameworks related to your topic and analyze how the reality of the organization is similar or different from each theory or framework that you chose. Try to use all of the components of each theory or framework for your analysis to form conclusions.

Conclusions: Based on your analysis, describe the conclusions that can be drawn from the context and analysis (points 1, and 2) that are significant for the problem to be resolved.

Recommendations: Explain what you think the organization should do to resolve the OB problem that you identified. This section should be based on your analysis and flow from your conclusions. Note that recommendations are not the same as conclusions.

Description

This assignment represents 20% of your final grade.

The written text should be 1000-1200 words--approximately 4 or 5 pages or less. The word count does not include the title page, summary or abstract, appendices, and references.

The paper must include at least 5 reliable sources of information for the topic.

Emphasize research for the topic content, not so much for the background of the organization.

Use academic journals, articles, scholarly literature, reputable corporate information, or magazines/papers.

Avoid non-scholarly websites such as: Wiki, some persons OB site ask.com or about websites, dictionaries, or blogs/social media. These sites will not be counted as references. If the reference does not have a date and/author it is probably not scholarly.

You will need to cite all sources used in the paper and include the references at the end of the paperin APA format. If you do not, you will risk getting a zero grade for academic dishonesty. Do not include references that were not cited in the paper.
