Individuals may choose any topic of interest. Please note that this is a Research report, so are expected to do research on the topic you choose. This means that individual should choose a topic that has information out there.

In terms of the formality of sources, individuals can be the judge. Professor do not expect all sources to be scientific journals or formal academic papers. Professor do expect you to find sources that are reasonably sound in logic and information. For example, anyone would not use the website 'the Onion' as a source for any information.

Length: 3 - 5 pages of single-spaced writing (i.e. if use pictures, length should reflect that).Must use block formatting (single-spaced, no indents, a line space between paragraphs).

Additional Information:

Individuals are expected to use at least 3 outside sources and integrate them into the one own writing appropriately. Quotes, summaries, and paraphrases are all acceptable ways to use a source.

Must use citations when using outside sources.

Individuals must use at least 1 graphic. This graphic must be integrated properly, including being labeled, cited, and referenced in the text.

The level of formality for this report should be fairly formal, but not scientific journal-formal.Individuals should make use of all formal writing skills discussed in this, and other, courses. Some things to consider are avoiding use of 1^st person (I, me, my, our, we), using complete sentences, and choosing vocabulary well (use a thesaurus if necessary).

The Research Report must be a recommendation report. The vast majority of what people submit should be a culmination of the research you've done, which will present me with an unbiased, objective view of the topic, but individual must also present a recommendation to a problem presented. This problem can be in the form of a thesis statement, or can do a Yardstick report (exemplar posted on our Announcement page).
