INE346 PRODUCTION SYSTEMS-1 COURSE TERM PROJECT . . . . . . The aim of the project is to give the opportunity to show your lesson mastery less restrictive, more realistic than an exam or assignment. This means that there must be some mathematical modeling and/or analysis similar to the material in the book or slides. The concept is the application of the models and methods of this course to a local bakery/patisserie (or a portion of a factory). Consult the manager of the bakery; identify three products with high demand rates. These products must be produced at the bakery. This project will give you hands-on experience on the application of methods and techniques learned in the class besides teamwork, going through the step described below. At the end of the project a report will be required and this report should be written professionally. The report evaluation of this project will also be used in ABET assessments. Procedure: Step Deadline Form a team with 2-3 members and open a thread on Blackboard (Bb) February 24 at 16:00 (You may work as a single person due to the difficulties emerged by Covid-19 pandemic). Select a local bakery/patisserie and submit your location. You may February 26 at 16:00 discuss your project ideas informally with the instructor. Teams cannot work on the same facility. Submit a report on Blackboard April 19 at 10:00 Oral presentation April 27-29 Report Submission Study report must include the following analyses: BOM for the products, Make or buy analysis, Forecasting study, An aggregate model of monthly production (solution for month May), Study report must include minimum three of the following analyses (focus an problem solving): EOQ study for supply, EOQ study for production, Network diagram of the supply chain, An MRP plan, A job shop scheduling study, CPM. A PDF of at most 10 pages, of which 1 cover, 2 appendix and 7 are content. Your pdf formatted report should show the following insights; o identifying problems of the bakery facing and the important aspects of the problem (your ability to identify complex engineering problems). Modeling the operations of the factory/company your ability to formulate complex engineering problems by identifying constraints, variables, and possible solution methods). Analyzing data with appropriate tools (your ability to solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and math). o Assumptions, limitations, and conclusions (your ability to use engineering judgment to draw conclusions). A time-lapse video max 150 mb. and max 3 min. telling the story of your project and your teamwork. You may use subtitles. Avoid using music with vocals. Project report should be submitted through Blackboard. No printed copies. Supervision Feel free to contact me by email with any questions. If you are unsure whether your progress is on track, communicate with me before you go too far. Grading Creativity, thoroughness, professionalism, and punctuality will be rewarded.
