Purpose:

• The interview process is a unique phenomenon. Assess how behavior, appearance and intercultural differences could potentially impact the outcome of an interview.

Instructions:

• For this portion of the assignment, imagine that you are the Hiring Manager for a profitable company. You are responsible for hiring one individual today for a job in the sales department. The responsibilities for this sales position involve a high degree of competency in:

• Interpersonal relationships
• Intercultural awareness
• Business etiquette
• Business ethics
• You have meetings scheduled all day with possible candidates for this position. Keep in mind that your credibility is on the line for whatever decision you make with respect to the hiring of new employees.
• Based on your understanding of the readings from the text and on your own insight, answer the following questions using evidence from your textbook for support. Your answers should be a minimum of five sentences that will highlight your understanding of the concepts from our textbook:

1. Based on the content of the textbook covered thus far, what are some qualities that are sought after in the workforce? What behaviors, including appearance, can negatively impact the outcome of an interview? (2 points)

2. Explain what strategies both parties can enact during the interview process that would help minimize cultural differences. Consider the role of ethnocentrism as it applies to intercultural experiences. What problems can we anticipate given our understanding of this phenomenon. (3 points)

3. Discuss the impact that nonverbal communication has on the interview process. How do things such as physical appearance, accents, gestures, volume of voice, tone of voice, eye contact, etc. impact the interview process? (5 points)
