INFORMATIVE SPEECH AND SPECIFIC PURPOSE ASSIGNMENT GUIDELINES Topic: The Impact of Social Determinants on Health Outcomes IMPORTANT: Usually, students choose topics that focus on current social or political issues that are timely and relevant. This is a contextualized course with an emphasis in Health Sciences. The research and delivery strategies learned in the course will be applied to various areas of health sciences such as medicine, health administration, laboratory services, diagnostic services, mental health services, clinical engineering, community health, physical therapy, and so on. Choose a topic that is relevant to any area of health sciences. As you consider potential topics for your speech, here are some questions to consider:| 1. Writing a Specific Purpose Statement. GENERAL PURPOSE ~ PART 2 According to the textbook, a general purpose is either to inform, to persuade, or to entertain. What is the general purpose of your informative speech to the topic you chosen? SPECIFIC PURPOSE STATEMENT ~ PART 3 Once you have selected your topic and determined your general purpose, then write a specific purpose statement that is only ONE statement. What is the one goal you expect to accomplish? Is the goal realistic? Consider a goal you can accomplish within four to six minutes.SPECIFIC PURPOSE STATEMENT EXAMPLE Remember that you are only informing, not persuading-leave the decision up to your audience to decide their views after listening to your speech.
