Initial Post (due week 1 of module):

Provide us with a rough draft manuscript for your first speech. Be sure to include the following parts:

Intro - need to draw in the audience with an attention getter and identify the main ideas in a preview (in the order they will be presented i the body, consistency is important).

Remember, do not start your intro with, "Hi, my name is... and today I will be talking about..." (huge pet peeve of mine).

Body - fully develop 3 paragraphs - one for each main idea. Include transition statements between the main idea paragraphs to show movement like, "Next, let me tell you about..."

Conclusion - need to signal the end with something like, "In closing..." and then follow that up with a restatement of the main ideas you presented, in the order they were presented. Finish your speech with one final statement that wraps it up.

You can format this as an essay or as an outline. It's up to you. Here is a sample (professionally created) self-introduction speech.

2 Peer Response Posts (due week 2 of module):

Provide your classmates with feedback on their rough drafts. Review the requirements above and ensure the rough drafts have each of the necessary parts. Discuss flow as well - does it make sense? Does it sound cohesive? Is there anything that can improve the rough drafts?

Please provide feedback to peers without feedback first and then move on to students who only have one response and so on
