HOW TO WRITE CAUSE EFFECT

PARAGRAPHS

1. Choose the most significant causes and /or effects.

2. Explain the causes /effects with detailed examples.

3. Arrange the causes /effects in a logical order (space, time, or importance). If you are arranging them in order of importance, leave the most important for the last. Write a draft.

4. Write a paragraph that includes a topic sentence, your cause(s), effect(s), and detailed examples. Use complete sentences.

Note: When you write the topic sentence think about one effect and three courses or one cause with three effects. It will help you to have a clearer topic sentence.

6. Write a title that previews your main point but does not repeat it.

7. Add examples and details that help readers understand the causes and /or effects.

8. Add transitions to move readers from one cause or effect to the next or from causes to effects.
