RETAINING STRUCTURE PROBLEM
An embedded sheet pile wall will be driven into an excavation to retain the neighbouring soil (medium to dense sand as shown in the figure below). Determine whether an embedment depth of 3.00 m is adequate to prevent failure of the wall according to the geotechnical ultimate limit state (GEO ULS) of Eurocode 7. Suggest a solution if stability is not satisfied and show this in a sketch.
(Assumptions: The groundwater level is well below toe level. Free-earth method maybe applied for the calculations, with wall rotation about the toe).
