PROBLEM 1NYDA and Msobomvu provide business startup finance to youth from 18 years to 35 years of age. Women up to the age of 50 years qualify [even if they are no longer youth] for the same scheme as long as they have a viable business. Financing organisations [including banks] recorded that the total number of women who applied for business start-up funds for the previous financial year was 6%. You have seen in the press and heard on the news that because of the patriarchal system women cannot be CEOs and MDs of any businesses. Equally, you know that 89% of CEOs and MDs in the SSMEs in the country are the individuals who started the businesses in which they are the executive managers. Suggesting that women can start their own businesses and become CEOs of their businesses, yet only 6% of eligible women go to do apply for business loans. PROBLEM 2CPUT employs many women at all possible levels and sometimes to management level, possibly as part of women empowerment. Generally there are fewer women in CPUT that have Ph.D qualifications, yet most of them have Masters degrees, most of whom have been in the system for more than a decade. Most have gone upto retirement, without venturing to do or upgrade their qualifications. Many reasons have been advanced, some of which have to do with family responsibilities as the predominant factor. Meanwhile, you also know that some of those women have no children or hard no children at a particular time when they were working and could have studied further. You also know that some of these women have children who are old enough, some married and some working for themselves, and that those mothers will not be busy keeping children who are already independent. There is a need to assist in the finding of a solution to this matter and research is the only way forward. REMEMBER; aproblem defined is a problem half solved.

The sponsors of this project are looking for solution through research, and you studied Research with Dr.L. E. Jowah at CPUT. You are confident that you can run the project, hence you have to prepare a business proposal for submission to a committee. Note that you do not know anyone in the community, so, no favours or bribing can take place, you only asset is the detail you will submit to get this Research Project.

For you to be given this tender, you need to submit a brief proposal showing how you would conduct this research. Below are tips for you to submit a good proposal that will win you the tender. No one you know sits in the committee that makes the decision, so, no nepotism, no favouritism or bribing is out.

REMEMBER YOU CHOOSE ONE ONLY OF THE PROBLEMS ABOVE
