Description

The government of Jamaica has contacted your international logistics firm (International Logistics and Supply Chain Solutions) to manage the procurement and distribution of the Pfizer vaccine from Pfizer Inc, USA. The company has agreed to supply eight hundred thousand (800,000) units in the first phase of shipment. As the expert, your company is responsible for the coordination/management of the entire operation, from receiving the procured units in the US to the distribution of the vaccines in Jamaica. Subsequent shipments will be done in an agreed time between the government of Jamaica and Pfizer Inc.

Operational Developments

Procurement- create a procurement/receival plan for the acquisition of the vaccines from the Pfizer designated location to the terminal (airport/seaport) that the shipments will be made from. Be sure to include (if any) storage space, transportation methods and any other services that will be included between the Pfizer site and the terminal.

Importation- develop an importation plan that will include all the necessary arrangements, transport mode selection, documentations for export (from the US) and import to (Jamaica). This plan should include all items/procedures between the terminal of loading to the terminal of discharge.

Warehouse & Inventory Management- this area involves the creation of a warehouse and inventory module. Action required should include the designation of warehouse site (s), type (s), size, and design/layout of warehousing space (s). Also, develop an inventory approach system and an inventory control mechanism.

Transportation/distribution- The flow of the vaccines will be a critical factor when they arrive in Jamaica. This requires mode selection from the terminal to the warehouse (s), types, sizes and number of vehicular modes, route planning and selection strategy. The distribution strategy should be developed in accordance with the warehouse and clinical sites. Develop a distribution strategy with the inclusion of all the above mentioned criterias/characteristics.

Quality Control- develop a quality control strategy that will be in alignment with national standards and international regulations. This plan should cover all aspects of storage, transportation, distribution of the vaccines and resource allocation.

Plan Summation- this should include a general outline of all the activities, plans and procedures throughout the entire operation (from the Pfizer site in the US to each clinical location in Jamaica). Also, discuss the role and importance of supply chain in the development and distribution of vaccines.
