This writing assignment has been designed to meet the requirements of Broward College's general education assessment process. It requires research. The competency being evaluated isethical reasoning. Watch the following video to find out about ethics. Ethical reasoning includes the following basic concepts (Overview of Ethical Reasoning): Ethics (the study of what is right and good) Morals (codes of conduct; morals are the actions we make based on our ethics) Virtue (ability to do something well; in ethics, virtue is the ability to be moral on a consistent basis) Value (an assessment of worth; in ethics value defines those behaviors/actions we deem important) Ethical reasoning is the ability to analyze and evaluate moral issues involving how people should treat themselves, others, and their environment. Moral reasoning applies critical analysis to specific events to determine what is right or wrong, and what people ought to do in a particular situation. For this paper, you must research a controversial artwork and determine whether the artist and the artist's critiques behaved ethically and morally. Before writing your paper, watch the following video about making ethical decisions. Eres Lo Que Lees Costa Rican artist Guillermo Vargas produced a controversial display, Exposicin No.1., which is often referred to asEres Lo Que Lees, for an August 2007 art exhibit in Nicaragua that featured a stray dog The dog was displayed as art Social media erupted negatively and an effort was made to have the artist boycotted so that he couldn't participate in the Bienal Centroamericana Honduras 2008 The artist also received multiple death threats You must research the controversy and determine the facts What doesEres Lo Que Leesmean in English? How long was the animal on exhibit? The artist included more than the dog in his artwork. What else was part of the display? Did the artist starve the animal to death as claimed on social media? Why did the artist sign the online petition against him? Your paper must examine the artist's ethical and moral issues regarding his artwork and take into account the reasons why the artist displayed a starving dog as art as well as the ethics of the petitions posted on social media sites and the participants that attempted to have the artist boycotted. Thoroughly explains the effect of an ethical issue and the extent of its human or environmental impact Thoroughly evaluates different moral perspectives or concepts Be sure to spell the artist's name properly! Your statements must reflect higher-order thinking (critical, logical, reflective, or creative thinking). Merely stating facts or quoting researched sources, will not be enough. You must connect the dots. You do need to prove that you researched the incident by stating the facts, but, more importantly, you must reflect upon the references and determine whether the artist and critics behaved morally General Education requirements Locate information (you must locate six references) Exhibit ethical and moral reasoning. You must evaluate the information and make conclusions that support your stance on the artist's decision to exhibit a starving dog as art and the protestors that petitioned to have the artist boycotted so that he couldn't participate in the "Bienal Centroamericana Honduras 2008." To write effectively about this topic, you must reflect on the nature of art, the impact of social media, and whether an artist has a moral obligation to behave ethically.
