Interviewing the Perfect Candidate
It is important to find the best candidates. The recruiting and selection process not only requires that we review resumes and applications but conduct interviews. We must respect all aspects of integrity and Equal Employment Opportunities (EEO) in Hiring.
You have been interviewing job candidates all week long. Most were fair but a few were really disappointing. There was one candidate who was especially sharp. He has been asked to return for a second interview. He is well dressed, professional in demeanor, and answers all the questions with the right answers. You are very impressed with him. You step outside the office and tell your boss that you believe you have found the perfect employee and he would fit the role of manager. You inform the candidate that everything has checked out and that you want to welcome him aboard.
As you finish shaking hands the hand he starts to leave he turns to you and says that he would like to invite you to his church. He says that he belongs to the Applewhite Foundation and believes that everyone will leave the planet to travel to a far solar system to colonize a new planet one day. He hands you some literature on the religion. What action would you take? Would his comments on his faith change the offer that you have just made to him? Why or why not?
