Interviewing This method requires a manager, HR representative, or job analyst to talk with someone who is knowledgeable about the job they are analyzing to get pertinent information. To get consistent answers, the employee and the direct supervisor or manager of the position should both be interviewed.
This type of analyzing would be best for jobs that are considered trades. Interviewing people in roles such as plumbers, electricians, roofers, locksmiths, etc. would be better to talk to the person performing the job because these people are never working in the same location and sometimes their jobs can pose safety risks. I think that this method would be best handled by a mid to senior level employee who has experience in job analysis.
Observation This is where a job analyst simply observes the job being done and records their typical duties. This is not always easy if someone has a job that may require a lot of traveling or their job is more hazardous.
The observation method would be better for more unskilled job duties such as a grocery store clerk, a cleaner, a fast-food restaurant worker, etc. The reason I think this is because their job duties are typically very monotonous and can be observed easier than asking questions or interviewing individuals. I think that this method would be handled better by a senior level employee because they will have the knowledge and skills to know what the job analysis is needing specifically. When they record their observations, they will be able to be clear and concise.
Questionnaire This is the easiest of the methods as it requires the least amount of time and effort. This is where a survey is created and sent to employees and their managers for answers. This would allow a job analyst to get a large amount of data in a smaller window of time.
This job analysis method would be better for professional workers such as doctors, lawyers. Accountants, etc. The reason I think this is because these types of jobs handle sensitive information that shouldnt necessarily be observed, but also because these types of jobs are very fast paced. Professions such as doctors and lawyers dont necessarily have the time for interviews as they are busy working with their clients/patients. I think that an entry level HR worker could handle this because they could develop a questionnaire and their manager could review it before it is sent out.
