In this module, you$$ll look at several professional roles that use data and databases. You$$ll think about how you$$ll fit into some of those roles and how you$$ll employ the skills you$$ve gained from this course. In the professional world, relational databases are common and important: If you$$re a retailer, you don$$t want the database that captures all sales to go down! There are also different roles that exist for people who work with data. The size and complexity of the organization often determines the number of specialized roles. In some instances, one person may be responsible for many different roles. For example, a database administrator might maintain the database management system, upgrade software, apply patches, back up data, and tune the database engine. A database developer works with the application developers to write the back$-$end database code to perform transactions such as insert, update, retrieve, or delete records. Data analysts are responsible for working with very large data sets to perform queries, spot trends, identify opportunities, and generate reports. Databases and their queries are used in an almost infinite number of ways to solve problems. They can be used to track patient health, important state records, and much more.
